Hostelling International-Malaysia

Hostelling International was founded by Richard Schirrmann,  a German school teacher in 1909.

A non-governmental, non-profit organization representing 71 member Associations from all over the world.  It is the world’s largest youth membership organization and is recognized by UNESCO


The Hostelling International-Malaysia was founded in 1955 and registered on 15 March 1957 under the Societies Act. The founding chairman was a young doctor by the name of Dr. J.H. Newton.

HI-Malaysia is a voluntary non profit organization and receives a tax exemption status under Section 44(6), Income Tax Act (Reference No. LHDN 01/35/42/51/179-6.713;Government Gazette 2729)

 HI-Malaysia is a full member of the International Youth Hostel Federation operating as Hostelling International based in England, United Kingdom since 1961.

Hostelling International-Malaysia previously known as Malaysian Youth Hostels Association (MYHA) and the change of name to HOSTELLING INTERNATIONAL-MALAYSIA was approved by the Registrar of Societies dated 1 July 2009.

HI-Malaysia office opening hours are

Mondays to Fridays: 9:00am-4:00pm

Saturdays, Sundays & Public Holidays: Closed
