Hostelling International Founded in 1909 by German School Teacher            

A non-governmental, non-profit organization representing 68 member Associations from all over the world.  It is the world’s largest youth membership organization and is recognized by UNESCO. Hi-Malaysia is a voluntary non profit youth organization and affiliated with the Malaysian Youth Council ( Majlis Belia Malaysia) since 1957, and is a full member of the International Youth Hostel Federation based in England, United Kingdom. The Association receive an administration grant from the Ministry of Youth and Sports Malaysia.

The Hostelling International-Malaysia was founded in 1955 and registered on 15 March 1957 under the Societies Act. The founding chairman was a young doctor by the name of Dr. J.H. Newton.

Hostelling International-Malaysia previously known as Malaysia Youth Hostels Association (MYHA) was change of name to HOSTELLING INTERNATIONAL-MALAYSIA was approved by the Registrar of Societies dated 1 July 2009.  HI-Malaysia is a full member of Hostelling International based in United Kingdom and receives a tax exemption status under Section 44(6), Income Tax Act.
